How to Make a Bed You Can Bounce a Quarter Off Of
“According to my friend Gretchen Ruben, author of the Happiness Project, making your bed neatly and tightly every day can actually increase your overall happiness. Men looking to get their lives together often want to tackle big goals while the rest of their life is a disorganized mess. Get the little things in your life under control, and the sense of confidence and satisfaction you’ll feel will help you move on the big things. So if you’re looking to move your life out of neutral, making your bed first thing in the morning might be the best way to start.”
I know this is from a site called “The Art of Manliness,” but I read the paragraph and I was like “Men? What?” so I would like to testify that this works for women as well. I mean, I don’t know about the hospital corners or bouncing quarters or whatever (this would be where I confess that I don’t use a top sheet because it invariably ends up bunched up uselessly at the foot of the bed, and also blankets are fluffier), but in general, I feel calmer and more capable when stuff around me is in a general state of cleanliness and order. Then again, maybe the reason why this article is directed towards men is that women are supposed to (a) already know how to make a bed and (b) be the one responsible for tidying things up, so they’re presumed not to need it.
My point is, if you’re a slob with ADD who never gets anything done (*raises hand*), you might feel a little better if your living space was neater. Regardless of your sex or gender.
